EG2015 Conference Dinner

For the Eurographics 2015 conference dinner in Aura's ballroom, the ETH GTC developed an interactive experience for attendees that allowed them to play classic Nintendo games using Aura's 380° projection system. We built a custom hardware to time multiplex controller input from 8 Nintendo controllers. The controller output is passed on to a standard NES console. Thus, 8 people play together, each one ready to take control from the next as the time multiplexer switches between controllers. The video signal from the Nintendo was sent to our PC running custom software that we developed to stitch together the video images for 360° projection. As a result, as one plays any side-scrolling game, the game fills the room. For example, in Super Mario Bros., Mario literally walks across the wall as one progresses through each level.
